The UN Security Council Secretariat announced the meeting, according to an Ukrinform correspondent in New York.

The discussion was initiated by five European members of the Security Council – Denmark, France, Greece, Latvia, and the United Kingdom.

Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen is expected to chair the meeting, as Denmark holds the Security Council presidency in August.

UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo and Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Tom Fletcher will brief the Council.

The meeting will begin at 15:00 Eastern Time (22:00 Kyiv time).

As reported by Ukrinform, the Security Council’s most recent emergency meeting on the situation in Ukraine amid Russian aggression was held on July 27.

On August 10, the Council held an informal Arria-formula meeting to discuss Russia’s violations of international humanitarian law involving Ukrainian prisoners of war and civilians in captivity.
