Keith Urban performed a ballad about an ex 'moving on' just minutes before getting emotional in front of a crowd of fans at his Atlantic City concert on Friday.
The 58-year-old singer, whose divorce from Nicole Kidman was finalized in January, reflected on his new track We Go Back before belting out lyrics inside the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in exclusive footage obtained by the Daily Mail.
The heartbreak ballad is featured on Urban's latest album Flow State, which was released five months after he and Kidman finalized their divorce.
Urban's performance comes shortly after Kidman was linked to private equity businessman Michael Reinstein last month in July during an Italian getaway.
'This song is about a guy and a girl growing up in a small town,' Urban began at Friday's show as the audience cheered him on, and added that they 'grew up' together.
'They were the first of their friends to fall in love. They had a good thing going, until the guy screwed it up,' he said, adding: 'I will do that.'
The music artist paused briefly before continuing that 'years and years go by' when they finally cross paths again.

'This guy can't believe it. He sees the girl, she looks exactly the same. They start talking, they are getting along great. She tells him she's got somebody else.'
Urban explained that the 'chorus of the song says, "I know I never should have let you go. I was young and dumb, and I messed it all up bad.
'"You tell me that it's too late now, 'cause there's somebody new around. But what we've got is the one thing you'll never have. We go back."'
Urban performed several more songs after We Go Back before he became visibly emotional as he looked out on the sold-out crowd.
At one point, the star crouched down on the stage and even appeared to wipe away a tear.
The audience cheered and clapped as he looked down with a small smile and shook his head.
He then grabbed a microphone before taking in the special moment once again and said, 'This is why we keep coming back to Atlantic City.'
In the background, the band was playing instrumental music in preparation for his next track.
The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for Urban for comment, but has yet to hear back.

Urban's latest concert comes shortly after his ex-wife Kidman was seen cozying up to businessman Michael Reinstein last month in exclusive photographs obtained by the Daily Mail.
The Hollywood actress was seen sipping on an Aperol Spritz while sitting poolside with the silver fox in the Italian Riviera.
A source close to Kidman told the Daily Mail, 'After everything she went through with Keith, she deserves to find happiness.'
The insider added, 'She never thought her marriage wouldn't work out and she tried as best as she could to keep her family intact.
'Her daughters are her best friends, and she seems really content in her life. She's so easy to get along with and kind. She keeps her personal life extremely private.'
Back in June, reports surfaced that Kidman was romantically linked to a 'high-profile businessman.'
According to online gossip site DeuxMoi, the pair have been taking things slow.
A source told DeuxMoi at the time that 'the relationship has been quietly developing for the past few months and the pair have been keeping things extremely low-key and largely out of the public eye.'

The Moulin Rouge! actress had also been joined by daughters Sunday Rose, 18, and Faith, 15, during the Italian getaway. Kidman shares the teenagers with Urban.
The singer was reportedly left 'devastated' over claims that the actress sparked romance rumors with Reinstein.
Last year in September, the Oscar winner and Urban's separation came to light following 19 years of marriage, with the divorce being officially finalized in January.
It came after the pair had hit a rocky path in summer 2025, with the separation being reportedly a long-term development, according to Daily Mail sources.
Not long after ringing in the new year, the former couple reached a settlement agreement to finalize the divorce.
Kidman got candid about her love life during a recent interview with British Vogue earlier this month.
'I can still approach things intellectually. But my desire is not to be ruled by my head, I've always wanted to live a well-examined life, so what does that entail?'
She added, 'Trying things, making mistakes, failing, getting back up, moving on, embracing love, staying open, keeping the heart open and the possibilities.'

Kidman explained that she learned to 'adjust' after her life didn't turn out how she had expected.
'But at the same time I'm like, "Okay, I didn't expect this. I had a different view of what my life was going to be, but this is what it is now."
'You make all these plans and you have all these ideas of what it's all going to be like and then it's…not. You have to adjust. You adapt. The future, it's completely unknown to me right now.'
The actress told the outlet that, 'There was a point where I was very fearful and deeply vulnerable, which is exposing.
'And then at the same time I'm going, "Well, I can either really not confront it and just curl up, or I can just go forward with an enormous amount of hope."'

In March, the Hollywood star also talked to Variety about how she is now focusing on 'moving forward.'
'What I'm grateful for is my family, and keeping them as is, and moving forward. That's that.'
The Big Little Lies star added, 'I'm staying in a place of, "We are a family," and that's what we'll continue to be. My beautiful girls, my darlings, who are suddenly women.'
When questioned if she was 'doing all right' after the split, the actress replied, 'I am, because I'm always going to be moving toward what's good.'
