Nine’s Today co-host Sarah Abo has welcomed a baby boy. Abo shared the news on Friday’s breakfast segment and later on social media, revealing she named her son Sonny and that she gave birth a week ago.

“What a week with our little man,” Abo wrote on Instagram. “He came into the world a little early but that gave us a little longer to marvel at you, our beautiful boy.”

Upon announcing the news on Today, Sylvia Jeffreys was reduced to tears, saying she was so happy for Abo, and alluded to Abo’s fertility struggles.

“We are just so, so delighted for you,” Jeffreys said. “We know how much you’ve wanted this and waited for it, and it’s just so, so wonderful to see you with beautiful Sonny in your arms. And what a lucky boy he is to be right there.”

Abo left the breakfast show early to go on maternity leave on July 15 after a few health scares and heeding medical advice.

At the time, Abo apologised on Instagram for not being able to farewell viewers, saying doctors had “ordered” her to rest while monitoring her health.

“Copped a bit of a curveball last week with high blood pressure and have been in and out of hospital since, thankfully I’m in the safe hands of magnificent doctors, nurses and midwives taking incredibly good care of bub and me,” Abo said.

Since the birth of her son, Abo thanked the doctors who advised her to depart from TV early and rest.

“We love you so infinitely, darling,” Abo said in her most recent Instagram post. “And to the incredible doctors and midwives who made hospital home for two weeks – thank you for taking such good care of us, you are all angels and we are forever grateful.”
