Don’t lose patience, impeachment court asks public
MANILA, Philippines — Amid swirling speculation targeting the Senate impeachment court, spokesman Reginald Tongol has appealed to the public to hold on and trust the process of the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.
“Our message to the public is, one, don’t disengage, and don’t lose patience because the process of a trial, more than anything, even though you might see it as slow, is meant to ferret out the truth,” he told radio dzBB yesterday.
Tongol’s appeal comes as the impeachment court grapples with what he called speculations and unverified reports aimed at discrediting the proceedings.
Acknowledging that the court itself has fallen victim to these disinformation efforts, he urged Filipinos to remain steadfast as the trial continues with its regular 10 a.m. schedule.
Meanwhile, the House prosecution panel has backed the proposed new schedule for the impeachment trial as this aims to speed up its presentation of evidence. — Daphne Galvez
