According to Ukrinform, President Volodymyr Zelensky said this during the Ukraine–Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8) summit in Kyiv.

“Ukraine has officially never taken part in any operation related to the sabotage of Nord Stream 2. The issue is not about who wants what or who does not. There is an investigation, and it is currently underway. There is a situation, there are allegations, there are relevant witnesses — in other words, the process is ongoing,” Zelensky said.

He noted that high-level talks had been held with the German side on the matter. “They know perfectly well that Ukraine was not behind the planning or execution of the operation in question,” the president said, adding that the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were open to dialogue on the matter with their foreign counterparts.

“It is very important for us not to lose our partnership or the trust of the European countries that have been helping Ukraine since the beginning of this war. That is why we are absolutely open to taking joint steps in the investigation and to joint efforts to establish all the circumstances surrounding the actions taken at that time,” the head of state stressed.

As reported, on August 19, Germany’s Federal Prosecutor’s Office announced the arrest in Croatia of a Ukrainian national suspected of sabotage. He is reportedly a professional diver and a member of a group that planted explosives on the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 pipelines near the Danish island of Bornholm in September 2022. The explosions on September 26, 2022, severely damaged the pipelines.

On August 21, a Croatian court ordered the Ukrainian national suspected of involvement in the Nord Stream sabotage, who was detained at Germany’s request, to be held in custody pending a decision on his extradition.

The man was brought before the court on Thursday after being questioned by the County State Attorney’s Office, which requested his detention to ensure his extradition to Germany.
