One person was killed and 11 abducted travellers were rescued by the Zamfara State Police Command following a bandit attack along the Gummi–Sokoto Road.

The command disclosed that the attack occurred at about 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday when suspected armed bandits ambushed a trailer conveying vegetables and passengers.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Zamfara State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yazid Abubakar.

According to the statement, the attackers opened fire on the vehicle, causing the driver to lose control and veer off the road.

The police identified the deceased as Dan Fati Umar of Gidan Ganja, Bukuyum Local Government Area, while another passenger sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.

The command said the bandits abducted an unspecified number of passengers during the attack.

However, following a swift response by police operatives and other security personnel, 11 kidnapped victims were successfully rescued and reunited with their families.

Commenting on the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Muhammad Bello, condoled with the family of the deceased and wished the injured victim a speedy recovery.

He also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state and urged residents to continue providing credible information to security agencies to support ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity.
