Sitarist Rishab Rikhiram Sharma paid tribute to the legendary singer Asha Bhosle during a live performance in Kolkata's Biswa Bangla Mela Prangan. The homage was part of his ongoing Sitar for Mental Health India Tour and took place shortly after Bhosle's death on Sunday.
A viral video captured a poignant moment when Rishab performed a sitar rendition of Abhi Na Jao Chhod Kar, a song from the 1961 film Hum Dono, originally co-sung by Mohammad Rafi and Asha Bhosle. This emotional tribute resonated deeply with the audience, transforming the concert into a collective remembrance.
Social media users praised the performance. One commented on Rishab's official Instagram video, "Thankyou so much Rishhh for this memorable melody." Another wrote, "Feels like the soul being wrapped in a hug full of warmth and solace."
The evening began on a contemplative note before unfolding into an expansive musical journey. Rishab explored intricate ragas such as Bihaag, Kedar, Tilak Kamod and Shyam Kalyan, blending them into his signature neo-classical style.
Asha Bhosle died on April 12 at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital at the age of 92 due to multiple-organ failure. She left behind an unparalleled musical legacy spanning over eight decades, having sung thousands of songs in multiple languages. She is survived by her children and grandchildren.
