Commonwealth Games live updates: Swimmers hit the water as first medals up for grabs
It's officially day one of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, with the the first medals of the Games up for grabs in the para powerlifting.
Australia's swimmers also begin their campaign in the pool.

What's on today?
It's the first full day of competition and the first medals will be awarded early in the para powerlifting, featuring 2022 women's bronze medallist Hani Watson in the women's heavyweight category.
The swimmers hit the water with Lani Pallister a major favourite in the 400m freestyle at 4am, Australia's youngest athlete in 14-year-old Mia Hogan swims in the S13 100m freestyle, and the night wraps up with the 4x100m freestyle relays (Australian women have won gold at every Commonwealth Games since 1998, the men have won the past four).
Here's the basic rundown.
- 3x3 basketball/wheelchair basketball (7pm-6:30am)
- Artistic gymnastics (7pm-6:15am)
- Bowls (5:30pm-7:15am)
- Boxing (8pm-6:45am)
- Para powerlifting (10pm-6:30am)
- Swimming: Heats (7:30pm-10pm); Finals (4am-7am)

Hello everyone
Good evening and welcome to the ABC Sport coverage of the 2026 Commonwealth Games!
It's day one in Glasgow and we will have our first medals awarded over the course of the evening and into the early hours of the morning.
LoadingStepping out of the Tardis this evening will be Gemma Ferguson, James Tugwell and me, Simon Smale based here in Australia, while Jon Healy will be out and about in Glasgow.
