As well as 200-gamer Josh King, tonight’s contest is a milestone match for referee Ashley Klein, who sets a new NRL record with his 444th game in charge. It’s been a tumultuous year for Klein, but certainly a great effort to reach that tally.

They’re missing a lot of key players but this South Sydney side is looking great anyway, a backline shift to the right ending with Cody Walker holding up a nice pass for Jack Wighton who powers over the try line.

It’s another tricky conversion for Latrell Siegwalt, and this time he misses it to the left.

Rabbitohs 8, Storm 0 after 10 minutes

It’s a dream start for the Rabbitohs, with Cody Walker almost putting Jack Wighton over on the right edge – then Campbell Graham jumping over from dummy-half to get the game’s first points himself. Markers Sualauvi Faalogo and Tyran Wishart weren’t able to stop the towering winger and it’s 4-0 Souths, with Latrell Siegwalt spraying his conversion attempt wide to the right.

Rabbitohs 4, Storm 0 after four minutes

Hard-working Melbourne prop Josh King leads the Storm out ahead of his 200th NRL game, then the Rabbitohs take the field at Accor Stadium. Melbourne will kick things off, with Ashley Klein the man with the whistle.

And we’re off. Cody Walker almost drops the ball from the kick-off before sending rookie big man John Radel charging for the game’s first hit-up. And at the end of the Bunnies’ first set they receive a penalty after Ashton Ward was hit a little late after putting in his clearing kick.

Rabbitohs 0, Storm 0 after one minute

The Roosters hold on to win the early game in Newcastle, 23-22, with Dylan Lucas’ season-ending ankle injury the big news from that contest.

And two more injury-affected teams are ready to face off at Accor Stadium now, with Souths losing Cameron Murray, Tallis Duncan, and the suspended David Fifita while Will Warbrick joined Cameron Munster on the sidelines for Melbourne.

Jahrome Hughes is back at halfback, but Harry Grant is coming off the bench for the Storm tonight.

Ahead of tonight’s 8pm kick-off, there’s three minutes left in the early game, and it’s advantage Roosters as Daly Cherry-Evans slots a field goal to give the visitors a 23-22 lead over the Knights in Newcastle.

It’s been a bit of a heartbreaker for the Knights, who are without the injured Kalyn Ponga and lost Dylan Lucas to a season-ending ankle injury in the first half and Dylan Walker to a knee problem in the second half.

Six minutes away from kick-off in Rabbitohs v Melbourne now.

Sadly for South Sydney superstar Latrell Mitchell and Manly talisman Tom Trbojevic, cruel injuries have struck yet again in 2026, making their value on the open market a major talking point.

Should they both remain unsigned beyond November 1, you would ordinarily expect a bidding war for their services. But given how little football they have played in recent years, what is a fair price for them? At a time when the salary cap is about to increase, has their value gone up or down? Would it be possible to table a pay cut without offending the biggest names in the game?

These are the questions their clubs, as well as potential suitors, are asking themselves. When fit and firing, Mitchell and Trbojevic are the most dominant and captivating figures in the game.

In Mitchell’s case, there’s every chance he has played his last game of the year after consulting a neurologist about treatment for “complex nerve damage” relating to his back and calf issues. Trbojevic, meanwhile, is hopeful of a round 23 comeback against Melbourne after yet another hamstring strain. It’s his ninth in eight seasons.

The Sea Eagles had opened contract extension talks with Trbojevic’s management before his latest setback, while Souths have parked negotiations with Team Mitchell until their season ends. The Rabbitohs are hoping to retain the premiership-winning centre at a time when Campbell Graham, Brandon Smith, David Fifita, Tallis Duncan, Cody Walker and Jack Wighton are also about to become free agents.

Souths put on a clinic in a 48-6 thrashing of the Storm in Melbourne back in round 8.

Bad news in tonight’s early game with star Newcastle second-rower and NSW Origin rookie Dylan Lucas suffering a nasty dislocated and likely broken ankle, which is set to end his season.

The try-scoring forward suffered the injury in the first half of the Knights’ clash with the Roosters at McDonald Jones Stadium.

And there was more bad news for Newcastle, who lost star half Dylan Brown to a knee injury in the second half.

Yet the game is going down to the wire, scores level at 16-all with 15 minutes left.
