The father of B. Biju, 38, the dairy farmer who was allegedly murdered at his house near the Palayam bus stand in Kozhikode city, has sought a fresh investigation into the possibility that the accused youth arrested in connection with the incident received external support in carrying out the crime.

Rajan, the victim’s father, on Friday (July 24) said the accused, T.M. Deepak, was addicted to drugs and was unlikely to have committed the crime on his own. He appealed to the police to quiz Deepak’s close friends, alleging that they would have more information about the circumstances leading to the crime.

He also claimed that Biju had survived attempts on his life in the past and said that those incidents should be examined as part of a comprehensive investigation.

It was on Tuesday (July 21) that the 21-year-old was arrested in connection with the alleged murder. The investigation, supervised by District Police Chief (Kozhikode City) A.P. Shoukath Ali, concluded that the motive behind the crime was personal enmity.

The victim’s body was found in a pool of blood inside his single-room house in the early hours of July 19 after his mother alerted the police on finding the house locked from the outside. A post-mortem examination at the Government Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode, revealed the extreme brutality of the attack.

According to police sources, Deepak had developed deep resentment after Biju recently tried to arrange medical treatment for his suspected mental illness. A close relative of the victim, the accused had allegedly been waiting for an opportunity to attack him, they said.

The sources also revealed that efforts were on to recover the sharp weapons that were allegedly used for the crime.
