A total of 37,877 students — 12,932 men and 24,945 women — will receive their degrees in the 33rd convocation of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University (MSU) on its Abhishekapatti campus on Tuesday (July 28).

Of these graduands 871 — 175 men and 696 women — will receive their degrees in person from Governor and Chancellor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, while 37,006 students will get it in absentia.

Speaking to reporters here on Friday, Vice-Chancellor N. Chandrasekar said 758 Ph.D. scholars — 163 men and 595 women — and 113 medallists (60 undergraduates and 53 postgraduates) would receive their degrees from the Governor.

Founding Vice-Chancellor of Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies, Kochi, B. Madhusoodhana Kurup, the chief guest of the convocation, would deliver the convocation address. Minister for Higher Education P. Viswanathan would felicitate.

Tamil Nadu Director General of Police Mahesh Aggarwal, Deputy Commissioner of Police, South Zone II, Mumbai, R. Raga Sudha, and Senior Civil Judge, Sub-Court, Nilakkottai, D. Thriveni, would be among those receiving their doctoral degrees.

While Mr. Mahesh Aggarwal and Ms. Thriveni had done their researches in Criminology and Criminal Justice, Ms. Raga Sudha would be getting her doctoral degree for her work in the field of management studies.

Students M. Lalitha Kumari of Vyasa Arts and Science College, Vasudevanallur, would receive double medals for securing university first mark in B.Sc. Mathematics and English, and P. Nandhini of MSU Department would get two medals for her stupendous performance in B.Sc. Data Science and English.

“We published the results within 15 days from the end of the semester examinations and the final results within another two weeks after the revaluation. So, we have completed the entire process within a month after the examination. The MSU is the first university in Tamil Nadu to conduct the convocation this year so that the students’ higher education prospects will not get affected,” said Mr. Chandrasekar.

Registrar (in-charge) Annadurai and Controller of Examinations Balasubramanian were present.
