For three months now, there has been disruption in drinking water supply by Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board to certain parts of Mylapore, largely those coming under depot 124 of CMWSSB. By extension, these areas would be in Corporation ward 124. Complaints of unfilled sump for around three months have been pouring in from Arisikaran Street. Despite regular beeps on the mobiles of CMWSSB’s depot 124 officials, the problem persists.

Not a drop of drinking water to our address in Arisikaran Street, says Diwakar, a resident of the street. Numerous complaints have been made; but the deadlock continues, he adds. CMWSSB has only dug-up trenches in front of some houses to show for their efforts; the pipelines are dry as a bone, says Diwakar.

The script is uncannily similar for some residents of K.P. South Street. Ramesh, a resident of K.P. South Street, notes that after renovation of his house he went in for a new Metro Water connection and the mandatory meter, but the efforts are yet to yield piped water. Three months have elapsed and no drop of CMWSSB water in sight. Suresh, another resident on KP South Street, points out lack of water supply caused him to suspect a problem in his sump. Acting on that thought, he changed the washer and other materials in the pump; and imagine his frustration to see the refurbished pump still being unyielding. Residents of Nallappan Street, TSV Koil Street, Adam Street and Solaimariamman Street have also registered complaints about poor water supply by CMWSSB.

Residents of these streets observe that despite a string of complaints, CMWSSB has not addressed the issue. While total lack of supply in some addresses persists, low pressure in pipelines is the sad reality in a few others. They note that since they are paying water tax diligently, they deserve better from CMWSSB.
