The Selection Committee of the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DME) has announced that it would reopen the online application portal for MBBS and BDS admissions for the academic year 2026-27. The portal will reopen at 10 a.m. on Sunday (July 26, 2026) and close at 3 p.m. on Monday (July 27, 2026).

The committee’s decision comes in the wake of representations received from students, it stated in a press release. When the portal is reopened, students who are yet to apply can do so, while those who are yet to complete their application process can finish it.

The release said it was strictly a one-time measure keeping in mind the welfare of students and there would be no more extensions. It stated that the editing of already-submitted applications would not be permitted, since that would delay the scrutiny process, which was already under way.

The committee has assured candidates that those who have submitted applications with minor errors need not panic. Clerical and typographical errors would be checked and rectified during the document verification and scrutiny phases.

The National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), the nationwide single-window entrance exam for MBBS and BDS degree courses held on May 3, was cancelled after allegations of a paper leak surfaced. The exam was held again on June 21, pushing the entire admission process behind by over a month. Leaked papers also triggered student protests across the country leading to the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
