A seventh class student, Madakam Nandini (12), of Kamayyakunta Tribal Welfare Girls Ashram School has died of malaria fever.

Nandini, a native of Puliramudugudem village in Buttaigudem mandal of Eluru district had been suffering from fever for the last few days.

The girl was admitted to K.R. Puram Primary Health Centre (PHC) and then to other hospitals in the Agency area. Later, she was shifted to a hospital in Koyyalagudem where she died while undergoing treatment on July 24, said P. Jagannadha Rao, Deputy Director, Eluru District Tribal Welfare Department.

“Nandini tested positive for malaria, and her condition deteriorated due to a drastic fall in platelet count,” Mr. Jagannadha Rao said on Saturday.
