Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday reviewed the performance of Kurnool district administration from the ‘Sanjeevani’ public meeting venue at Aspari and congratulated the officials who performed well in their respective domains.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Naidu said that the NDA government was committed to delivering good governance and emphasised that public welfare could be achieved only when the administrative machinery functioned efficiently.

The Chief Minister posed for a group photo with the officials, and handed over a cheque for ₹197 crore to women self-help groups in the district.

Stating that he made it a point to meet people directly, unlike leaders of the previous dispensation who moved behind protective screens, Mr. Naidu said, “A Chief Minister is not someone who sits in the Secretariat but a common man who lives among the people. That is why I visit people every month to understand their issues and formulate policies to resolve them.”

Earlier, he advised farmers to exercise caution on water usage, given the rainfall deficit caused by the El Niño effect. He also mentioned the efforts to replenish groundwater levels through the Jaladhara programme. Mr Naidu promised to complete the Vedavathi project and provide irrigation water to the region.

“An irrigation calendar has been formulated to complete 36 irrigation projects across the State in three years,” he said, and announced that the Vedavathi Lift Irrigation Scheme in Kurnool district would be completed at a cost of ₹1,768 crore. He criticised the previous government for failing to spend a single rupee on irrigation projects or complete one project during its five-year tenure.

“The previous government failed to provide water to a single acre of new land or create any jobs. It is ironic that those who scrapped drip irrigation subsidies are now speaking about development of Rayalaseema,” Mr. Naidu said.
