The Maritime Administration reported this on Facebook, according to Ukrinform.

As noted, the hull and superstructure of the vessel sustained significant damage as a result of the enemy attack. As a result, it lost its seaworthiness and sank.

There was no crew on board at the time of the sinking.

The Administration notes that the Golden Leo (IMO 9181833) was flying the flag of Guinea-Bissau and was carrying corn. The vessel was attacked while exiting the port of Chornomorsk via the maritime corridor. The International Maritime Organization and the shipowner have been informed of the incident.

It is emphasized that by attacking merchant ships, Russia is grossly violating the norms of international maritime law and the principles of freedom of navigation, posing a direct threat to the lives of seafarers and jeopardizing the stability of international maritime transport and global food security.

As reported by Ukrinform, on July 19, the Russian military struck the civilian vessel Golden Leo, sailing under the flag of Guinea-Bissau, with cruise missiles.

There were 17 Syrian and Indian citizens on board, all of whom were crew members. There was also a Ukrainian pilot. Ten people were killed in the attack, and eight were rescued.
