Midnight explosion hits DOJ compound in Manila

MANILA, Philippines — Authorities are investigating a late-night explosion near the entrance of the Department of Justice (DOJ) main compound on Padre Faura Street in Manila.

The blast occurred at approximately 12:17 a.m. and preliminary reports indicate the explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED).

“There are no reported casualties, and the Philippine National Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal (PNP-EOD) Unit was immediately notified and responded to conduct a technical examination,” the DOJ said in a statement Monday.

“Investigation is ongoing to determine the source, nature, and circumstances surrounding the explosion,” it added.

The DOJ assured that the situation is currently under control.

“The DOJ remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of its personnel and the general public, while supporting a comprehensive and impartial investigation,” the agency stated in an official release.
