A fresh case of death related to the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) emerged in Maharashtra with a 19-year-old medical aspirant allegedly ending her life over disappointment with her NEET re-exam results.

She was found dead at her home in Jalalpur village in Karjat taluka of Ahilyanagar district. According to Karjat police, she left behind a note reflecting that she was distressed and disappointed as she couldn’t qualify cutoff in the NEET-UG examination.

“As per preliminary investigation, Sharvari (name changed to protect identity) was under stress over her performance in the NEET exam. The note mentioned that she scored less marks and was disappointed over it. The accidental death report (ADR) has been registered,” Karjat Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Sujeetkumar Kshirsagar told The Hindu.

The incident took place on July 25, around 4 p.m. She belongs to a farming family, survived by her parents and brother.

On the same day, the 37-day protest, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over irregularities in conducting NEET examination, ended with his resignation.

National Testing Agency (NTA)’s NEET re-exam was conducted on June 21, after the NEET UG 2026 exam held on May 3, attempted by at least 2.27 million aspirants, was cancelled on May 12 due to a question paper leak. The re-exam results were announced on July 16.

Her uncle, while speaking to media persons, said, “She was confident about the May 3 NEET examination as her papers went well. However, in the NEET re-exam, she scored 166 marks, falling short of 10 marks in her category cutoff of 177. Thereafter, she looked tensed.”
