Toronto police surrounding U.S. Consulate after officers found evidence of gunfire outside building

Police say officers heard gunfire in area early Monday morning. Building was previously shot at on March 10

More than a dozen Toronto police vehicles were parked outside the U.S. Consulate early Monday morning after evidence of gunfire was found outside the downtown building, which had previously been targeted in a shooting in March.

Officers heard gunfire in the area of the building near University Avenue and Armoury Road around 4:45 a.m. and found evidence of a firearm discharge outside the U.S. Consulate, Toronto police said in a post on X.

A white sedan was seen fleeing the scene, police said, but there was no immediate suspect description. There were no reported injuries.

While police did not immediately confirm the U.S. Consulate had been fired upon Monday, the building had been shot at earlier this year on March 10. No one was injured in that shooting, but RCMP called it a "national security incident" at the time.
