The Romania Journal reported the development, according to Ukrinform.

The ministry said its radar surveillance system detected an aerial target east of Sulina on Monday, July 27.

According to the statement, two F-16 fighter jets from the 86th Air Base in Fetești were scrambled at 8:53 a.m. to monitor the situation.

The target briefly entered Romania’s national airspace before crossing the border back into Ukraine. Shortly afterward, explosions were reported on Ukrainian territory,” the Ministry of National Defence said.

Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu said Bucharest has the option of initiating consultations with its allies under Article 4 of the NATO Treaty.

"Article 4 was also invoked during Russia’s first attacks on Crimea, and Romania was one of the key countries in that process," she added.

According to estimates, the Romanian military spent approximately €1.5 million over three days of operations during which it shot down three drones that had entered the country's airspace.
