In a key decision for Mysuru Dasara-2026, the State government has decided not to issue complimentary Gold Passes to VIPs, with only passes matching the seating capacity to be printed and sold to the public.

Announcing the decision after the Dasara Executive Committee meeting at the Zilla Panchayat on Monday, Urban Development Minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah also said 17 sub-committees had been constituted to ensure the successful organisation of the festival, with executive chairpersons entrusted with overseeing various events.

Addressing press persons after the meeting, the Minister outlined the key decisions taken and the preparations underway for the festivities.

He said each of the 17 sub-committees would have an executive chairperson and members to organise different events as part of the celebrations in an organised manner.

Kambala inclusion

The Minister said discussions were underway to include Kambala, the traditional buffalo race from the coastal region, as part of this year’s Dasara. “If approved, an 18th sub-committee would be constituted for the event. The cycling velodrome near the foothills of Chamundi Hills has been inspected as a possible venue, and a final decision will be taken after Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar gives his approval,” he added.

On the chief guest for the inauguration of Dasara, Mr. Yathindra said several names had been suggested by MLAs, but the Chief Minister would take the final call.

He said officials had been instructed to complete all flyover, white-topping and National Highway works that could be finished before Dasara. Long-term projects that cannot be completed before the festival will be temporarily suspended during the celebrations to ensure smooth movement of residents and tourists.

The Minister said this year’s drone show would be organised on a larger and more innovative scale. An air show is also being planned, subject to approval from the Union government.

Mr. Yathindra also directed officials to ensure that while they remained engaged in Dasara preparations and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, routine public services were not affected.

“Dasara is the pride of our State. Suggestions received from the public and elected representatives, including on sanitation, women’s safety and taluk-level sports events, will be incorporated to make this year’s celebrations grander and more people-friendly,” the Minister said.
