The headquarters of the Greater Chennai Corporation, the Ripon Buildings, was illuminated in green on Monday evening to mark World Hepatitis Day. The awareness initiative was organised by the Greater Chennai Corporation in collaboration with the Chennai Liver Foundation and the Rotary Club of Chennai Towers.

The campaign sought to draw attention to viral hepatitis, which remains a major cause of chronic liver disease and often goes undiagnosed until serious complications such as cirrhosis or liver cancer develop. The organisers highlighted the importance of hepatitis B vaccination, early diagnosis, and timely treatment in reducing the burden of the disease.

They urged people at risk to undergo testing and know their hepatitis status, adding that improved awareness, screening and access to care are essential to achieving the goal of eliminating viral hepatitis as a public health threat.
