A 45-year-old woman sustained injuries after allegedly attempting to kill herself outside the Chief Minister’s Special Cell at the Tamil Nadu Secretariat on Monday morning.

Police personnel on security duty quickly intervened, and rushed her to a hospital. Preliminary inquiries indicated that she had come to submit a petition seeking government intervention in a long-pending land dispute in her native village near Villupuram.

The woman was identified as Archana, a resident of Avalurpet village in Villupuram district. She arrived at the Secretariat around 11 a.m. to present a grievance before the Chief Minister’s Special Cell regarding a land dispute with another resident of her village.

The incident triggered brief panic within the Secretariat complex. Security was subsequently tightened, with officials stepping up screening and surveillance of visitors entering the premises.

The Fort Police have registered a case and are investigating.
