The Bharatiya Janata Party on Monday (July 27) organised two Tiranga Yatras in West Bengal against the violence at NEET paper leak protests and called for action against “troublemakers”.
The protestors were seen holding the Indian National Flag and raising slogans of “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”. Several BJP MLAs and Ministers were also seen on the roads leading these marches, including Tapas Ray, Vijay Ojha, Santosh Pathak, Priyanka Tibrewal, and others.
“We respect the concerns of our students, but if anti-national elements try to push their agenda and attempt to destabilise the country by misleading our students, we will not allow that to happen...Action will be taken against those who damage government property and attack the media; they will not be spared,” senior BJP leader and minister Agnimitra Paul said.
The people at the Tringa Yatra rallies also carried posters which said “India/Trianga biradhira sabdhan, deshbirodhi sloganist der kono khoma nai“ (Attention anti-India/Tricolour people, there is no pardon for anti-national sloganists). The posters also had pictures of cockroaches being eaten by lizards, which said, “Beware of disguised cockroaches“.
Some posters also said, “I stand with Modi”, “Cockroach gang churno kori, desh gori” (We will crush the cockroach gang and build the nation). The posters also alleged that the “cockroaches” were getting funding from foreign countries and the CJP movement is an attempt to divide India.
The marches did not carry any BJP flags, but several top BJP leaders led the marches.
“This march is against the anti-national forces in India. Is there any political party in India during whose time papers were not leaked? Be it Congress of Trinamool,” Minister Tapas Ray said while walking in one of the Tiranga marches.
One of the Tiranga marches started from Kolkata’s Sealdah Station and ended at Dorina Crossing following the exact 3-km route that was taken by Cockroach Janta Party protestors on July 24 when they were protesting against the NEET paper leak. The other march was from Golpark area to Jadavpur.
The CJP protest last week had taken a violent after protestors clashed with police at the Dorina crossing as the situation escalated. At least 16 people have been arrested by the Kolkata Police in relation to this violence.
On Monday, a group of journalists in Kolkata also did a protest rally against the violence they faced during the CJP protest on Friday from the city’s Press Club. They formed a human chain and called for an end to violence against journalists to ensure press freedom. According to police reports, at least six FIRs have been registered in connection with the attack on the media personnel last Friday.
