WASHINGTON, July 28. /TASS/. The Pentagon has launched a review aimed at improving the effectiveness of US force deployment in Europe, Under Secretary of War for Policy Elbridge Colby stated.

"Today, the Department of War kicked off the Europe Posture Review [US] Secretary [Pete] Hegseth announced at the last NATO Defense Ministerial Meeting in Brussels. As the secretary laid out then, this will be a real review, designed to ensure that NATO is moving fast and irreversibly toward Europe taking primary responsibility for its conventional defense," Colby said in a statement posted on his X page. According to him, the review will align with the key provisions of the previously published US national defense and national security strategies.

The Pentagon’s deputy head also noted that following the review, options for further action regarding the deployment of US troops in Europe will be presented. These potential steps, he said, will be guided, in particular, by strategic considerations and a clear understanding of geopolitical and military realities. Colby added that the US will continue to consult with its European allies on these issues.

In June, Hegseth announced plans to conduct this review, which, as he noted at the time, would last six months. US President Donald Trump has repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction with the alliance’s activities. Even before his election, he threatened to withdraw the US from NATO if European partners did not assume greater financial responsibility for their own security.
