Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand, has urged his former teammate, Danny Welbeck, not to join Chelsea this summer transfer window.
According to Ferdinand, Welbeck should instead make a return to Manchester United to play Champions League football this season.
Welbeck has been linked with a transfer move to Chelsea as the Blues look to add experience to Xabi Alonso’s attacking line.
The Brighton striker is said to have held ‘advanced talks’ to switch to Stamford Bridge.
The 35-year-old, who scored 13 Premier League goals last season, has a year left on his current contract.
Reacting to news of Chelsea’s interest in Welbeck, Ferdinand wrote on X on Monday, “Welbs…. Ignore plus come back home!
“Champions League football next season in Manchester.”
Welbeck scored 29 goals in 142 appearances for Man United during his time at Old Trafford.
