Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man: Brand New Day has completed the certification process for its Indian theatrical release after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) granted the superhero blockbuster a UA 13+ certificate with minor modifications. The film is scheduled to open in Indian cinemas alongside its worldwide release later this week.

According to the CBFC’s certification details, the board instructed the makers to delete an eight-second kissing sequence before approving the film for exhibition. In addition, three instances of strong language were either muted or removed from both the English audio track and subtitles. The certified version also carries the mandatory static anti-alcohol health warning during scenes depicting alcohol consumption, in line with Indian exhibition guidelines.

Following these changes, the film was awarded a UA 13+ certificate, making it suitable for viewers aged 13 and above, while younger audiences can watch it under parental guidance. The final approved runtime stands at 2 hours, 24 minutes and 52 seconds.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks Tom Holland’s return as Peter Parker following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, where Doctor Strange’s spell erased the world’s memory of his civilian identity. The new chapter follows Peter as he attempts to rebuild his life while once again protecting New York as Spider-Man.

The film also stars Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal and Sadie Sink, whose role has been kept under wraps throughout the marketing campaign. The recently released trailer teased new threats, familiar faces and a darker chapter for the web-slinger, fuelling anticipation among Marvel fans ahead of release.

The CBFC’s decision is the latest example of minor content edits being requested for major Hollywood releases in India. While the changes affect brief moments of romance and dialogue, the film’s narrative and action sequences remain untouched, allowing Indian fans to experience the latest MCU adventure largely as intended.

With advance bookings already showing strong demand across the country, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is expected to be one of Marvel’s biggest Indian releases in recent years.
