MANILA, Philippines — The Senate on Tuesday passed on third reading two agriculture bills that aim to protect agricultural and fisheries cooperatives and promote the sector’s development. Senate Bill No. 1990, or the Agricultural Cooperatives Act, authored by Sens. Risa Hontiveros, Kiko Pangilinan and Joel Villanueva, was the first of the two measures adopted. The measure seeks to institutionalize the formation of agricultural and fisheries cooperatives and the creation of a bureau to guide these organizations in modernization, training and development.
