MANILA, Philippines — Senate President Pro Tempore Vicente Sotto III on Tuesday filed a bill seeking to raise the minimum annual income subject to tax to P350,000 from the current P250,000. During President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s penultimate State of the Nation Address (Sona) on Monday, Marcos asked Congress to increase the number of workers exempt from the tax on their income, and to “include those earning not more than P350,000 per year.” In the explanatory note of his bill, Sotto said his filing was an answer to Marcos’ call for tax relief for Filipino workers.
