MOSCOW, July 28. /TASS/. India is exploring purchases of liquefied natural gas produced in Russia's Arctic region, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko said.

"Cooperation with India has for decades focused primarily on the joint development of oil and gas fields. The Indian side is actively involved in the operations of Vankorneft, Taas-Yuryakh Neftegazodobycha, and the Sakhalin-1 project, and is exploring purchases of liquefied natural gas produced in Russia's Arctic region. In 2024, a program for Russian-Indian cooperation in trade, economic, and investment activities in Russia's Far East for 2024-2029, as well as principles of cooperation in Russia's Arctic region, was adopted," he said in an interview with the Russian Arctic and Far East Development portal.

He added that cooperation in the logistics sector also holds strong potential. "Options are being explored to expand cargo transportation along the Vladivostok-Chennai maritime route. Opportunities for the joint development of the Northern Sea Route are also under consideration. The necessary legal and regulatory framework is being established. The first step was the signing of a memorandum in December 2025 on training specialists to work on vessels operating in polar waters. The next step will be the conclusion of a memorandum on expanding cooperation in cargo shipping along the Northern Sea Route," the diplomat said.
