The Revenue department maintains that cardamom plantation lands are indisputably revenue lands. Inaugurating the Cardamom Conclave organised by the Cardamom Planters’ Club on Tuesday evening, the Revenue Minister A.P. Anilkumar said the government would take steps to resolve claims raised by the Forest department over the Cardamom Hill Reserve (CHR) lands.

The Minister added that the government is taking measures to vacate a Supreme Court stay order regarding these lands. The Chief Minister has also noted that a joint meeting of the Revenue and Forest departments will be convened soon to address the stay. Furthermore, the Minister clarified that the government has no intention of taking over cardamom plantation lands by refusing to collect land revenue taxes.

Mr. Anilkumar also highlighted that the government is considering allowing farmers to cultivate foreign fruits alongside existing crops. Additionally, the government is exploring ways to tap into the tourism potential of plantation lands.

According to officials, the conclave focused on legal clarity and amendments regarding CHR areas, building construction bans on cardamom lands, and hurdles faced by landholders in securing title deeds. Peerumade MLA Cyriac Thomas, Idukki MLA Roy K. Paulose, Udumbanchola MLA Senapathi Venu, Devikulam MLA A. Raja, Cumbum MLA N. Eramakrishnan, former Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary, Planters’ Club President Siby Abraham, and Secretary Roby Thomas among others attended the meeting.
