With a goal of achieving 50% green cover in SPSR Nellore district by 2047, Collector Himanshu Shukla directed officials from various departments—including Horticulture, Agriculture, Panchayat Raj, Education, Industries, Irrigation, NHAI, Roads & Buildings, Sericulture and Forest—to work in coordination and successfully implement the government-mandated greening initiatives.

He convened a District Forest Committee meeting here on Tuesday (July 28, 2026). The meeting discussed implementation of various programmes including ‘Great Green Wall of A.P.’, School Nursery Scheme, ‘Namo Van – Nagar Van’ Scheme, and establishment of palm groves in every village, cultivation of timber-tree species under VB-GRAMG programme, seed ball dispersal, and PM-RKVY Agroforestry scheme.

The Collector directed every department to collect details on the roads and canals, lists of tanks, vacant government lands for plantation, proposals for establishing school nurseries, areas for ‘Vanamahotsav’ plantations, sites for developing palm groves, lands for cultivating timber-yielding tree species, and areas appropriate for ‘Great Green Wall’ initiative.

He advised the officials to submit these details to the Forest Department, and prepare action plans in coordination to complete the targets set for each programme on time. He said that green initiatives will contribute a lot to environmental protection, soil conservation, groundwater enrichment and biodiversity conservation in the district, and directed officials to work responsibly.
