The wildfire that on July 9th tore through the hamlet of Bédar in Almería province, which has a large foreign population, was Spain's deadliest in more than two decades.

Fresh wildfires have struck Spain in recent days, ravaging tens of thousands of hectares west of Madrid but so far causing no reported casualties.

The woman died at Seville's Virgen del Rocío University Hospital where she was being treated since suffering severe injuries in the blaze, a hospital spokeswoman told AFP, without giving further details.

Spanish media said she had remained in intensive care with burns covering 70 percent of her body. The woman's nationality and age have not been disclosed.

The authorities suspect the wildfire began when a power line broke, setting fire to vegetation that had been parched after hot weather.

The inferno spread at up to 100 metres (330 feet) per minute at its peak, trapping victims in their vehicles or on foot as they tried to flee.

Most of the victims were from Britain and Belgium.
