BTS to skip Grammy consideration for 2027 amid new Asian Pop Category

K-pop supergroup BTS has decided not to submit its music for consideration at the 69th Grammy Awards, the group announced on Wednesday, July 29. 

All seven members — RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook — shared the same statement on their individual Instagram accounts, explaining their decision to skip this year’s Grammy submissions.

“We have decided not to submit for Grammy consideration this year. We hope our music can be heard and loved for what it is, rather than being divided by region or language. We thank Army and everyone who has always stood by us,” the boys wrote.

The announcement came after the Recording Academy introduced a new Grammy category, the Best Asian Pop Music Performance, which recognizes outstanding performances in Asian pop music, including K-pop, J-pop and C-pop.

BTS has received five Grammy nominations throughout its career, including in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Best Music Video categories, but has yet to win. The group’s seven members have also served as voting members of the Recording Academy since 2019.

Expectations for a Grammy breakthrough had grown after BTS released its fifth studio album, “Arirang,” in March following the completion of all members’ mandatory military service. The album topped music charts and received a strong global response.

The group is currently on its “World Tour Arirang.” After concluding its European leg, BTS recently performed at the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final Halftime Show alongside Madonna, Shakira and Justin Bieber.

BTS is set to resume the U.S. leg of its world tour on Aug. 1 in East Rutherford before bringing the tour to Manila for a three-night concert in March 2027.

The 69th Grammy Awards are scheduled for Feb. 7, 2027. /edv
