President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said this during an interview with the U.S. television network Fox News while visiting the United States, according to Ukrinform.
Zelensky said that Russia is suffering heavy battlefield losses but continues to pursue the war.
"Putin is losing 30,000 soldiers per month. There're many losses, but he doesn't want to stop this war. So now initiative is not in the hands of Putin," Zelensky said.
He added that Kyiv continues to push for a ceasefire that could pave the way for a final settlement, but Putin remains unwilling to engage in any form of dialogue.
"We are asking to stop this war each day... to negotiate a ceasefire for some period of time and give possibility for diplomats to negotiate. But Putin doesn't want. So, this is the problem," the Ukrainian President said.
Zelensky also stressed that the war has become a race of innovation.
"We understand that this war is changing each three, six months. We have to change technologies. We have to be quicker than Putin because Putin has more people… and we have to save our people and use more technologies than people," he said.

According to Zelensky, when Putin claimed at the start of the full-scale invasion that Russia would occupy Ukraine within two or three days, few could have imagined the transformation that followed.
"Now we build a great mil-tech industry. We have 500 companies with very strong technologies," the President said.
