PBA: Macau comes back to beat Terrafirma for 2nd straight win

MANILA, Philippines—Macau notched its second straight win after rallying past Terrafirma, 96-92, in Group A of the PBA Governors’ Cup at Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Wednesday.

The Giant Pandas climbed back from 15 points down to tie the Dyip at 2-4.

“Everybody became a good teammate with the next man mentality and that’s what we did tonight,” guard Damian Chong Qui said after turning in 29 points, three assists and three steals.

“It just shows we have heart, we come out and compete every night, it shows us that we can compete in every game.”

Kobey Lam scored the go-ahead layup plus the foul off a Maverick Ahanmisi turnover for a 94-92 Macau lead with 10 seconds left. Lam failed to convert the bonus free throw but got his own miss that gave the Giant Pandas a crucial possession.

Terrafirma guard Juami Tiongson took the duty foul on Chong Qui, who buried both of his free throws to make it a four-point game with 4.1 ticks remaining.

The Dyip still had the chance to force overtime, but Tiongson, who finished with 15 points, six rebounds and three assists, misfired on a 4-pointer as time ran out.

De’Vondre Perry dominated for Macau with 34 points and 14 rebounds.

Justin Strings paced Terrafirma with 34 points and eight rebounds while Ahanmisi recorded a near triple-double of 20 points, nine rebounds and eight assists.
