A pedestrian has died after being struck by a road sweeper in a Manchester suburb.

Emergency services were called to Little Hulton in Salford on Tuesday morning following reports a 64–year–old had been seriously injured.

The victim was taken to hospital but died in the hours that followed.

The driver of the road sweeper, a 39-year-old man, was not injured in the collision, which took place on Cleggs Lane at around 8.16am.

Greater Manchester Police said no arrests have been made while investigations continue.

The force said it is now appealing for further information and witnesses.

Local residents reported the road being blocked off amid a heavy police presence for most of Tuesday.

Greater Manchester Police said: 'At around 8.16am a road sweeper collided with a pedestrian on Cleggs Lane, Salford. The pedestrian was taken to hospital for treatment.

'The driver, a 39–year–old man, was uninjured, but the pedestrian, a 64–year–old man, suffered serious, life–threatening injuries.

'The pedestrian sadly passed away from his injuries yesterday afternoon (Tuesday 28 2026).'

Officers asked the public to come forward with any details, CCTV, dashcam, doorbell, or mobile phone footage.
