More than 100 Renault Twingo E-Tech electric models have crossed the Channel from France and are arriving at Renault retailers across the UK, giving buyers their first chance to see the award-winning city EV up close just as order books open.

The convoy of left-hand-drive cars, all painted in Absolute Green, has been brought over purely for display purposes ahead of the Twingo's UK launch.

Nicknamed 'Le Frog' by Renault, the reborn Twingo has already built up plenty of interest thanks to its retro-inspired look, compact size and promise of a starting price well below £20,000. Until now, though, chances to see one in the UK have been fairly limited.

Customers across the country will be able to take a closer look at the new electric hatchback at their local Renault retailer, although they'll have to wait a little longer before they can drive one, with the cars remaining as static display models.

Renault is also continuing to offer its £100 R Pass, which gives buyers priority access when order books open, along with exclusive updates, a dedicated concierge service, a miniature Renault Twingo E-Tech model and a green Renault key cover.

Such is the enthusiasm ahead of its official launch, introducing LHD static display cars to our retailers is a great way to answer customers' questions and give them an early and highly convenient way to experience Twingo's unmistakeable style, clever packaging and sheer personality."

Designed for city driving, the Twingo measures up as one of the smallest EVs on sale, and has been described in The Independent’s first test as being the best car driven so far in 2026.

Sliding rear seats allow owners to prioritise either passenger legroom or luggage space, while a 27.5kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and an 80bhp electric motor are expected to deliver a WLTP range of up to 163 miles.

Technology includes One Pedal driving and, depending on specification, Renault's OpenR Link infotainment system with Google built-in, bringing features normally found in larger cars into the city car class.

General UK ordering is now open, with Renault hoping the Twingo can repeat the strong early success enjoyed by the Renault 5 E-Tech electric, which has rapidly become one of the UK’s best-selling electric cars.
