Police crack down on drug dealing in Wairoa

A specialised police unit is cracking down on drug dealing in Wairoa, with six people arrested so far.

Four men and two women aged between 19 and 44 have been charged with drug dealing, firearms and dishonesty offences.

Police said eight search warrants were executed by specialist police staff and the Eastern District Gang Disruption Unit within three days.

Senior Sergeant Nathan Snell said the operation focused on the impacts of drug supply into the community.

"Police recognise the burden drug use and addiction has on the community and are committed to holding those involved in its supply to account," he said.

"We see real harm in the community from drugs, especially when they are connected to organised crime as they profit from addiction and vulnerability."
