CEBU CITY, Philippines — Cebuano boxing promoter Lorenzo “Chao” Sy of Chao Sy International Promotions has announced the 13th edition of his “Fist of Fury” boxing series, set for Aug. 22 at the Mandaue City Sports Complex.

Headlining the card are three of Sy’s top prospects: Joperson Trazo, John Paul Gabunilas, and Vicente Unidos.

In an interview with CDN Digital, Sy said Trazo is expected to headline the event, with either an International Boxing Federation (IBF) or World Boxing Council (WBC) regional title on the line.

Sy added that he is still deciding whether to match his fighters against local or foreign opponents, with the final lineup depending largely on the event’s budget.

“Kanang August 22 sa Mandaue Sports Complex na, ang main event either si Trazo, Gabunilas o si Unidos. Naay usa ka title fight ana kang Trazo, either IBF or WBC nga title,” said Sy.(This coming Aug. 22 at the Mandaue City Sports Complex, the main event will feature either Trazo, Gabunilas, or Unidos. Trazo is set to fight for a title, either an IBF or WBC regional belt.)

“Ang plano nato, depende sa atong budget, pwede ta international, pwede pud ta ug local. Kung gamay ang budget, dili ta mokuha ug international.”

(Our plans depend on the budget. We may bring in international opponents, or we may go with local fighters. If the budget is limited, we won’t be able to bring in international opponents.)

Trazo enters the event riding back-to-back unanimous decision victories over Benjie Jabagat and Johnrey Montesclaros in separate bouts held in Cebu. The winning streak has put him back on track after he suffered a unanimous decision loss to Carlo Diaz VII in Manila in October last year.

The 24-year-old owns an 8-2-1 record with two knockouts.

Gabunilas, the newest addition to the Chao Sy Boxing Stable, is also looking to revive his career after a three-fight losing skid in high-profile bouts in Cebu and Japan.

He returned to action after more than a year of inactivity during Sy’s May 9 fight card at the Cebu Coliseum, which featured an IBF world title eliminator as the main event. Gabunilas impressed in his comeback by stopping Omega Boxing Gym’s Ramil Roda via fourth-round technical knockout.

The victory improved his record to 11-4, with eight knockouts.

Meanwhile, Unidos is also looking to build on his resurgence after snapping a two-fight skid. He rebounded from defeats to China’s Tuohatasen Sailibieke and Kenneth Albino in 2025 with a knockout victory over Jovanie Tagusi in Masbate last March.

Unidos currently holds a 5-2 record with four knockouts.
