The Second Additional District and Sessions Court and the POCSO Special Court in Dharwad convicted and sentenced a 27-year old accused in a POCSO case to 20 years of imprisonment.

The convict, Praveen Savanur, 27, from Kalghatagi, was accused of luring a minor girl and raping her after taking her on his bike to a field on April 4, 2023. The court found him guilty of the crime.

Judge Rajkumar C. pronounced the judgment and also imposed a penalty of ₹1.20 lakh. The penalty amount will be paid as compensation to the victim in addition to ₹7 lakh compensation from the government.

The Kalaghatagi police conducted the investigation and filed the chargesheet.
