Delhi University on Tuesday appealed for calm amid ongoing protests by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), saying "vested interests" were exploiting students' fears instead of helping ease their anxiety.

In a post on its official X handle, the university said: "We see the pain and anxiety of our students. It is unfortunate that vested interests are exploiting their fears instead of easing them. The need of the hour is to calm the situation and reduce their distress, so that they can focus on what truly matters: their studies and their future."

The university did not elaborate on who it was referring to as "vested interests" or announce any fresh measures in the statement. The statement comes amid demonstrations by CJP. The university's appeal is aimed at urging students to remain focused on their studies.

NOTICES ALSO SHARED BY IIT ROORKEE

Meanwhile, IIT Roorkee faced criticism over a notice advising students to refrain from participating in demonstrations or public protests without prior approval from the institute. The advisory was widely criticised as a "gag order" before the institute later clarified that it had been misunderstood.

In its clarification, IIT Roorkee said the advisory was intended to ensure campus safety and maintain academic functioning, and did not prohibit students from expressing their views or participating in peaceful discussions. The institute maintained that the notice was being interpreted out of context and reiterated its commitment to students' constitutional rights while urging them to follow campus regulations.
