According to Ukrinform, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported the verdict.

Based on the evidence gathered by officers from the Internal Security Department of the 6th Border Guard Detachment under the State Border Guard Service's Western Directorate, the court found a 49-year-old native of the Luhansk region guilty of high treason. The man, a former State Border Guard Service serviceman, defected to Russia after abandoning his military service and went on to carry out assignments for Russian intelligence agencies.

Investigators established that he had attempted to build an agent network among Ukrainian border guards.

In particular, he contacted Ukrainian servicemen, including personnel from the Volyn Border Guard Detachment, seeking to persuade them to cooperate with Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) and involve them in intelligence and sabotage activities.

Thanks to timely measures, Ukrainian authorities detected, documented, and stopped the agent's subversive activities in time, preventing the leakage of information that could have been used by the enemy.

The Lutsk City District Court of the Volyn region heard the case under a special judicial procedure and found the defendant guilty under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason).

In addition to the 15-year prison sentence handed down in absentia, the court ordered the confiscation of all of the defendant's property and stripped him of his military rank of junior sergeant.
