‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ records biggest PH Spider-Man opening day at P96 million

The Philippine premiere of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” received overwhelming support from Filipino fans, with the Marvel film earning almost P96 million at the local box office — the biggest opening-day gross for a Spider-Man film in the country.

The Tom Holland-starrer, which hit local theaters on Wednesday, July 29, generated a total of P95,930,965 million in first-day gross, as announced by its distributor Columbia Pictures Industries, Inc.

The said figure is the biggest opening gross for Sony Pictures and the biggest post-pandemic opening-day box office in the Philippines.

A cinema in Mandaluyong posted the highest first-day box-office gross, earning P2,767,125.

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” also set the record for third-biggest opening day of all time in the country, trailing only “Avengers: Endgame” and “Avengers: Infinity War.”

The latest film in the Spider-Man franchise, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, follows the story of Holland’s Peter Parker fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him.

Other cast members include Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando and Mark Ruffalo. /ra
