Richmond ‘smash and grab’ thieves who stole £225k of jewellery have been jailed

A trio of thieves who broke into a jewelry store in broad daylight and stole £225,000 worth of items have been jailed.

Eyewitness footage from 31 January shows Deniz Mehmet, 28, Robert Clarke, 50, and Lee Ramsey, 46, entering Gregory & Co in Richmond, after smashing the window with a sledgehammer.

The Metropolitan Police immediately launched an investigation, quickly identifying the men after reviewing CCTV and analysing forensics.

Clarke and Ramsey were arrested on 31 March, after officers burst into their bedrooms in Essex. Mehmet was arrested on the street on 8 April, also in Essex.

On Thursday (30 July), during a sentencing hearing at Kingston Crown Court, Mehmet, from Basildon, was jailed for five years; Clarke, from Rochford, was jailed for six-and-a-half years; and Ramsey, from Harlow, was jailed for five years and three months.

They had all pleaded guilty.
