At The Hindu’s Lit for Life Unplugged held in Kolkata on July 19, legendary singer Usha Uthup and historian Anand Puri, third-generation custodian of Trincas, came together for an evening celebrating the music, memory and history of Kolkata’s iconic Park Street. Moderated by The Hindu’s Associate Editor Shonali Muthalaly, the conversation revisited Usha Uthup’s remarkable musical journey, Trincas’ enduring legacy, and the vibrant nightlife that once made Park Street the entertainment capital of India. Filled with anecdotes about Satyajit Ray, Uttam Kumar, Sharmila Tagore, Jani Chacko Uthup and the golden era of live music, the evening concluded with Usha Uthup performing some of her most-loved songs as the audience joined in celebration.
