Whether you’re a practicing yogi or a Pilates devotee, the best yoga leggings have become a wardrobe staple - taking us from the gym to brunch and even, if you have a casual dresscode, to the office.

Unsurprisingly, their boom has led to a surge in options. From £20 high street leggings to £130 moisture-wicking flares, almost every brand has released a version, making choosing the right ones even trickier.

As a former track athlete and daily yogi who’s encountered everything from chafing to slippage, see-through fabrics and annoying camel toe, I’ve spent the last month separating the best from the rest. I know just how personal yoga pants can be, with the right balance of style and comfort being key to a confident practice.

Saskia Bolscher, senior instructor at MoreYoga, agrees. “Yoga pants need to fit so well that you hardly notice you're wearing them, and shouldn’t need to be adjusted mid practice,” she says. “You should be able to move in all directions with no worries about them being see-through, especially in moves like downward dog.”

Fortunately, I’ve got Bolscher’s criteria covered. From household names like Lululemon and H&M to viral challengers such as TALA and Oner Active, there’s a pair here for everyone - whether you prefer flares or leggings, a snug fit or relaxed style.

  • Bestyoga leggings overall
  • Why we love it- Support without restriction
  • Inclusive sizing for tall and petite women
  • Buttery soft fabric

  • Take note- Not the best for high intensity exercise

I have lived in the ONER Active softmotion flared bottoms since they arrived on my doorstep. If you’re looking for a silky-soft, barely-there feeling, I couldn’t recommend them more as the best yoga pants I’ve tested.

They slip on easily, run true to size and come in three different lengths. For me, at 5ft 9in, the long length perfectly grazes the floor rather than my ankles, and importantly, they didn’t shrink even after multiple washes - a frustration I’ve often found with other flared leggings. I’d say for anyone 6ft and under, they’d be comfortably long enough.

They also perform well on value for money, at nearly half the price of premium brands like Vuori and Lululemon, whilst matching them like-for-like on fit and comfort.

For me, Oner finds the sweet spot between figure hugging and restriction. They’re snug without cutting you in half, which allows for free movement across all planes of motion.

They’re really hard to fault, though if you’re looking for complete versatility to suit both high and low intensity exercise, you might prefer a legging rather than a flare.

  • Sizes:XS-XXL (available in short, regular and long)
  • Fabric:81% polyamide, 19% elastane

  • Bestbudget yoga leggings

  • Why we love it- Great value for money
  • Flattering and supportive fit
  • Rear pocket for small essentials

  • Take note- Slightly thicker and less breathable material

  • Limited colourways

Uniqlo consistently blows me away with its ability to match quality with affordability, and this set of flares is no different. At just £24.90, they’re a steal and either matched or outperformed more expensive pairs on, look, feel and durability. I was also a fan of the small, zipped rear pocket, which is super useful for stashing a key or set of headphones.

I opted for the tall length and found that they fitted like a glove – snug around the waist without cutting in and extending well beyond my ankles without trailing on the floor. They held their shape even after washing, though I was careful to put them on a sportswear cycle and not to tumble dry.

My only real flag is for those who mostly practice hot yoga. The fabric, particularly on the waistband, is thicker than the likes of Oner or Vuori, so you may find you get sweatier in these.

Key specifications

  • Sizes:XXS-XXL (available in short, regular and tall)
  • Fabric:77% polyamide, 23% elastane

  • Bestyoga leggings for all day wear

  • Why we love it- Reasonably priced yet high-quality
  • Soft and unrestrictive
  • Secret rear pocket for small essentials

  • Take note- Run big

Adanola is another brand that punches above its price tag. Its yoga pants glide on easily and remain comfortable throughout the day, without need for readjustment, even after hours of wear.

They do run a little big, however. I ordered a medium which, according to the size guide, is the equivalent of a UK 10. They turned out to be a little looser than I’d have liked on the waist and leg, which made the flare look less pronounced than they appear online. If you’re looking for that really sculpted silhouette, I’d recommend sizing down or choosing a pair like Tala’s high-waisted day flex, which will give you more compression.

I’d also reserve these for your less sweaty workouts. In fairness, they don’t claim to be sweat wicking, but if you regularly opt for hot classes, I’d choose a lighter weight pair like Vuori or Lululemon.

Key specifications

  • Sizes:XXS-XXXL (available in short and regular)
  • Fabric:78% Polyester, 22% Elastane

  • Besthigh-waisted yoga leggings

  • Why we love it- High-rise design creates sculpted silhouette
  • Soft, second-skin feel
  • Washes well
  • Inclusive sizing

  • Take note- Expensive

  • You’ll want them in multiple colours

I’ve religiously worn the Lululemon align leggings for more than five years, and never thought I’d find a style I prefer. Yet, since discovering the nulu high-rise flare, my allegiance has changed. They feel utterly weightless from the moment you slip them on, with a flattering shape that feels more versatile for transitioning from the studio to work and running errands.

I also love that there’s the option for both high-rise and super high-rise waistbands, providing for greater flexibility depending on your torso length and preference for compression. Pair that with the inclusive sizing – there are options for UK sizes 4-24 and inseams of 31, 33 and 35 inches – and I’m confident that there’s a combination to suit almost every height and shape.

Of course, they are on the expensive side at £108, but their quality and durability stands up to their price tag. I washed these multiple times throughout my month of testing and had no issues with shrinking, snagging or pilling.

  • Fabric:81% polyamide (nylon), 19% elastane

  • Why we love it- Buttery soft fabric
  • Great for moisture wicking

  • Has a front seam

For a second skin feeling, you’d struggle to do better than Vuori’s all the form flare, which were well in the running for best yoga leggings overall.

They’re lightweight, exceptionally soft and fit snugly, without being overly tight. Having put them through their paces during a heatwave, they’re also my top choice for sweatier practices. I found their moisture-wicking claims to stand up to the test, with no visible sweat marks in any of my sessions. They didn’t budge an inch, either, even when I wore them for gym sessions and light jogs.

It’s worth noting that they do have a front seam, but I didn’t notice any chafing, so from a comfort point of view, it wasn’t an issue. If, from an aesthetic perspective, you prefer the seamless look, Oner Active or Lululemon would be your best bet.

Of course, I can’t ignore the price tag. At £130, they’re the most expensive pair on this list. Whilst their performance is impressive, they’re without doubt an investment.

Key specifications

  • Size: XXS-XXL (available in short and regular)
  • Fabric: 74% polyamide, 26% elastane

  • Bestyoga leggings with wrap waistband

  • Why we love it- Close compressive fit
  • Flattering wrap waistband
  • Plenty of size options

  • Take note- Tighter fit makes them a little more restrictive

Tala flares are beloved for a reason. Designed by women, for women, they’re snug-fitting, supportive and made with squat-proof fabric that does wonders for gym confidence. Plus, there’s a secret back pocket and colourways to compliment all skin tones and style preferences, from lilac and buttermilk to espresso, black and slate green.

The wrap waistband stood out because I found it slightly less compressive on my tummy than the high-waisted style, which (spoiler) also features in this guide.

They won’t budge, either - I tried them for Pilates, barre and yoga and found they performed well across disciplines.

Key specifications

  • Sizes:2XS-4XL (available in 28in, 31in, 33in and 35in inseam
  • Fabric:75% recycled polyamide, 25% elastane

  • Bestsoft yoga leggings

  • Why we love it- Super affordable
  • Soft and comfortable
  • Stays in place

  • Take note- No option for petite or tall lengths

I’ll be honest, in the past I’ve been too quick to pass over H&M’s Move range in favour of more expensive brands, assuming the quality wouldn’t compare. But after trialling the softmove leggings for more than a month, I’ve been proven wrong.

They’re super soft, figure hugging and breathable, and stay resiliently in place for a full 60 minute flow, with no annoying slips or readjustments required.

With the lower price point, you do have less options when it comes to fit. They’re a one length fits all, but I was pleasantly surprised to find they reached close to the ankle, even as someone who’s 5ft 9in. However, if you’re taller, you may find that they only reach mid calf.

I’d also recommend using a gentle cycle when washing. Though I haven’t experienced any pilling yet, I know friends who have had issues after washing on high heats.

  • Fabric:81% polyamide, 19% elastane

  • Bestyoga leggings for sculpting

  • Why we love it- Close compressive fit
  • Plenty of size options

  • Take note- Tight fit makes them less comfortable for all-day wear

  • Ultra high-waist caused occasional camel toe

When it comes to a flattering fit, you can’t do much better than this high-waisted version of Tala’s viral dayflex yoga pants. They’re studio selfie worthy which, to me, came slightly at the price of comfort, since the compressive feeling can become a bit restrictive if you’re wearing them all-day long.

Ranging from 2XS to 4XL (equivalent of a UK 6-22), with a further four different options for leg length, they’re also one of the most size inclusive options, with further option for both a front seam and seamless version. I found them to run true to size and the 35” inseam grazed perfectly along the floor without getting caught under my feet.

Overall, they’re a flattering, versatile option to suit most body types.

  • Why we love it- Relaxed, comfortable fit
  • Plenty of colourful options

  • Take note- On the pricier side

  • Less versatility for high intensity practices

I didn’t expect to love these Free People bubble pants as much as I did. At first glance, I thought that the looser fit leant itself better to lounging than actual workouts, but quickly found them to be my go-to for days when I wanted to move my body whilst feeling ultra comfortable.

If you prefer your activewear to be sculpting, these won’t be for you. But if you value freedom of movement, they could be your perfect pair. I found that the looser fit gave me space to be more playful with my practice, especially in backbends and inversions. Lots of the reviews suggest sizing down for a more snug fit, but having gone with my regular size I found them to be perfect, especially given the drawstring waistband which allows you to adjust to your body.

There’s also a huge range of colourways, which goes far beyond most of the other products in this guide. If you’re looking for something bright and colourful, the choice here is almost endless.

Key specifications

  • Sizes:XS-XL (available in short, regular and long)
  • Fabric:80% polyamide, 20% elastane

  • Bestyoga leggings for natural fibres

  • Why we love it- Made from natural fibres
  • Thick material washes well

  • Take note- Baggy around the waistband

  • Not sweat-wicking or super stretchy

Switching to a natural fibre legging takes some getting used to, as the sensation is heavier, and less stretchy, than nylon. Made from bamboo, cotton and elastane, Bam’s enduro leggings do offer a little stretch but still definitely run looser than less natural materials.

It’s why I’d challenge the brand’s claims that the Enduro leggings are sculpting. I found the waistband to be a little too roomy, causing it to slip and ruche. If I was to repurchase, I’d definitely size down to get the more figure-hugging fit.

What I can’t critique, however, is the thickness of the material, which washes well, holds its colour, doesn’t thin and has absolutely no risk of going see-through mid squat. They’re also highly breathable, meaning they work well for hotter practices.

All in all, if you’re looking for a non-toxic composition, with top tier eco credentials, this is the pair for you. If a flattering shape is more what’s on your mind, I’d look elsewhere.
