Did you buy souvenir popcorn buckets or plastic cups at the movie theater last year? You may want to take a look in your cupboards, especially if you have small kids.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has recalled the Fantastic Four drinking cups and Captain America popcorn helmet because they contain button-cell batteries that can be easily accessed by kids, according to a recall notice posted online.

The Fantastic Four cups were sold at AMC movie theaters across the country in March and April 2025 for about $15. The Captain America popcorn buckets were sold at a much wider variety of theater chains from February until August 2025 for roughly $30. While the products were sold last year, the recall was just issued for the first time this week.

The products were manufactured in China and imported by Golden Link of Middletown, New York. They also fail to have a warning about how kids can ingest batteries, which became law in 2023.

Reese’s Law was passed to notify parents about products with small batteries and set basic battery standards for products that don’t already need to comply with toy safety standards in the U.S. Roughly 2,500 kids in the U.S. swallow lithium coin batteries every year. And that’s really bad news. Those batteries can burn the esophagus and cause life-threatening injuries in just two hours.

Energizer released a new line of lithium batteries this year called Ultimate Child Shield, which includes several safety features. They feature a bitter, non-toxic coating that seeks to make sure kids spit out the batteries if they put them in their mouths. The new batteries also prevent burning when it comes in contact with saliva and dye the child’s mouth blue. The dye is important because the quicker a child can get to the hospital, the less likely they are to be seriously harmed or die. Dozens of children are killed each year from swallowing small batteries.

No injuries from the popcorn bucket or cups have been reported, but consumers are still being encouraged to remain vigilant, according to the CPSC.

“Consumers should stop using the Fantastic Four Cups and Captain America Popcorn Helmet Containers immediately and contact Golden Link for a refund of the purchase price of the product,” the federal agency said in its recall notice.

“Consumers will be asked to dispose of the product and send a photo showing proof of disposal to [email protected] to receive a refund,” the CPSC continued.
