An expert committee constituted to assess the progress and effectiveness of the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) being implemented in universities and colleges in Kerala submitted its interim report to Kerala State Higher Education Council vice-chairperson Achuthsankar S. Nair on Friday.
The committee, chaired by Gladston Raj S., Professor, Department of Computer Science, Government College, Karyavattom, has recommended the formation of an Inter-University Board of Studies Committee to ensure uniformity in curricula, internship mechanism, examination methods and evaluation standards in universities.
It also suggests providing extensive training to teachers on outcome-based education (OBE), constituting a dedicated committee to address issues arising during the implementation of the FYUGP, and launching an FYUGP grievance redressal portal for students.
The committee has also proposed permitting teaching departments with adequate research facilities and qualified faculty to introduce Honours with Research degree programmes. Other recommendations include improving internship portals, promoting student mobility and ensuring scholarship benefits for fourth-year students.
