Ariana Grande is back! The singer-songwriter released her eighth full-length, Petal, today (Friday, July 31), and as expected, it has quickly become a bestseller around the world.
Petal shot up the iTunes rankings globally at the beginning of the new tracking period. Fridays are when most artists release albums and songs, as the timing gives musicians a full seven days in which to accumulate streams and sales before the charts are refreshed. Grande claims the highest debut in America during what has turned out to be a relatively quiet frame for new albums.

Petal leads the iTunes Top Albums chart, which ranks the bestselling releases on that platform in the United States. iTunes is not the only outlet where fans can purchase musical projects, but it remains one of the most important when it comes to digital downloads. Those kinds of sales have dwindled in recent years as streaming has taken over and diehard followers have increasingly opted for CDs and vinyl, as physical formats have once again become popular and collectible.
Ariana Grande Claims One of Two Top 10 Debuts
Grande scores one of only two debuts inside the top 10 on the iTunes Top Albums chart this frame. Five Finger Death Punch claims the other, as Legacy opens at No. 3. Sitting between the two new arrivals is Music, Fashion, Film (B-Sides Edition) by Charli xcx. That set drops from No. 1 to No. 2 as Petal replaces it in first place.

Sometimes, when an artist’s new album sells well, its individual tracks do not perform on iTunes because fans are purchasing the collection as one complete entity. That has not turned out to be the case with Petal.
Grande fills 18 spaces on the iTunes Top Songs chart in the U.S., and every one of those positions is occupied by a tune from her new album. Fans may notice that Petal includes only 12 tracks, so it may seem impossible for the singer to occupy 18 spaces with only new arrivals.
Multiple songs appear twice, because several versions of the album are available, allowing Grande’s followers to purchase different editions of the same favorites.
For Billboard charting purposes, all versions of the same title are grouped together. The fact that in some cases, multiple takes appear on the list suggests that Grande may easily score several new bestsellers on next week’s rankings.
Half of the 12 tunes featured on Petal appear more than once on the iTunes Top Songs chart. That group includes “Hate That I Made You Love Me,” “Kiss Me,” “Like I Do,” “Never Get Over Me,” “Petal” and “Stay.”
